Domaine Lécheneaut
Nuits-Saint-Georges
Meet the producer
Situated in Nuits Saint Georges, Maison Lécheneaut enjoys a prestigious location in the Côte de Nuits, cultivating around twelve hectares dispersed across twenty esteemed appellations.
Founded by Fernand Lécheneaut in the late 1950s, the estate began with two and a half hectares.
In 1986, his sons, Philippe and Vincent, took the leadership of the domain after completing their oenological training in Beaune, continuing the estate's growth.
They acquired many premier cru parcels and enhanced the domain’s viticultural practices.
Notable advancements include the modernization of facilities, the enlargement of the winery, and the introduction of thermoregulation for more precise vinification.
Vincent and Philippe, committed to quality, aim to broaden their appellation portfolio while preserving the familial and traditional essence.
Since 2017, Jules Lécheneaut, representing the third generation, has joined the estate, ensuring the continuation of this esteemed winery's heritage.
The Estate’s philosophy
In their viticultural approach, Domaine Lécheneaut adopts a natural stance, utilizing organic products for phytosanitary protection and relying on organic matter as the exclusive fertilizer to emphasize soil microbial life and balance.
Traditional soil cultivation and Guyot pruning are the standards across the vineyard, complemented by manual leaf removal and green harvesting to manage yields and ensure optimal grape maturity.
Vincent and Philippe meticulously monitor grape development, conducting regular tastings and analyses to assess sugar levels, acidity, and phenolic maturity. The harvest, lasting a week, is executed by a meticulous team performing on-vine sorting before transporting the grapes in small crates to the winery.
At the winery, grapes undergo careful sorting, followed by destemming, maceration, and fermentation processes.
Aging begins with clarification in stainless steel tanks, followed by oak barrel maturation over eighteen months, triggering malolactic fermentation.
Approximately a third of barrels are renewed annually. Bottled without fining or filtration, with cork quality meticulously selected.
