Meet the producer

Located in the prestigious village of Chassagne-Montrachet, within the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Simon Colin was founded by Simon Colin in 2017.

The domain's origins date back to Simon's grandfather, Michel Colin, who was the founder of Domaine Colin-Deléger. Michel Colin divided his domain into two parts, distributing it between his sons, Philippe and Bruno.

Simon's father, Philippe, adopted a similar approach and gave 9.30 hectares of his domain to Simon. The vineyard area is divided into 6.3 hectares of white grapes, comprising 95% Chardonnay and 5% Aligoté, and 3 hectares of Pinot Noir.

The domain's production is divided into roughly 40% premier crus, 40% village wines, and 20% regional appellations.

Before founding the domain, Simon Colin had a diverse apprenticeship in the wine industry. Initially, he worked alongside his father and then gained experience in South Africa, Oregon, and at Domaine Sauzet in Puligny-Montrachet, where he spent four years and gained expertise in organic and biodynamic winemaking practices.

During his time at Domaine Sauzet, Simon initiated a micro-négociant business, sourcing high-quality grapes from reputable suppliers, and eventually agreed with his father to purchase the necessary equipment and buildings to establish his domain using his father's vineyards.

Today, Domaine Simon Colin produces around 55,000 bottles annually, with a portfolio of 15 distinct cuvées that reflect the region's rich diversity.

The vineyards are located in Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, and Maranges villages. With a deep respect for family tradition and expertise, Simon Colin is committed to crafting wines that are not only delicious but also eco-friendly and sustainable.

The Estate’s philosophy

Domaine Simon Colin's wines have earned a reputation for their exceptional intensity, purity, and finesse. The domain's diverse range of red and white wines showcases the unique characteristics of each appellation, from the rich, full-bodied flavours of Chassagne-Montrachet whites to the elegant, refined tannins of the reds.

This achievement is a testament to the region's rich winemaking heritage and Simon Colin's commitment to organic and biodynamic practices.

In making his red wines, Simon Colin employs a thoughtful approach that balances tradition and innovation. He uses a variable proportion of whole clusters, ranging from 0% to 50%, and relies primarily on pump-overs during the 10- to 15-day cuvaison period.

This is followed by a 48-hour lees settling time, the wine is transferred to barrels, with a proportion of 25% to 33% new wood.

The élevage period for both colours of wines typically spans 12 to 15 months, allowing the wines to mature and develop their full potential.
